ACCESS CONTROL • ADMINISTRATOR TRAINING
Quick Answer

Can I set schedules from my phone?

Alta Access is cloud-based, so administrators can use the web interface from compatible devices. However, there is an important difference between everyday mobile access and administrative programming.

BF Technology Solutions recommends using a laptop or desktop whenever you create or modify entry, holiday, user or access-group schedules.

Remember This

Phone = Access.
Laptop = Administration.

Think of your mobile device as the convenient everyday access tool and your computer as the preferred administrative workspace.

Mobile Device

ACCESS

Best suited for convenient everyday access and authorized operational functions.

  • Use mobile credentials
  • Access authorized doors
  • Perform everyday mobile operations
  • Access the web interface when appropriate
Laptop / Desktop

ADMIN

Recommended for changes that affect schedules, permissions or building security.

  • Create entry schedules
  • Configure holiday schedules
  • Manage user schedules
  • Manage access groups
  • Review entry states
Business Hours Schedules

Control When Your Building Opens, Secures & Restricts Access

Business-hours schedules determine how selected entries behave throughout the day. Before changing a schedule, administrators should confirm which doors are affected, the correct time settings and the entry state that will be activated.

Know the Difference

What exactly are you scheduling?

An entry schedule and a user's access schedule accomplish two different things inside Alta Access.

Entry Schedule

An Entry Schedule controls how a specific door or entry behaves during scheduled periods.

MAIN OFFICE ENTRANCE

Monday - Friday
8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
UNLOCKED

After 5:00 PM
STANDARD SECURITY

User / Access Group Schedule

A user or access-group schedule determines when a person is allowed to use their assigned credential.

EMPLOYEE ACCESS

Monday - Friday
7:00 AM - 7:00 PM

Authorized employees can use their assigned credentials during the configured access period.
Administrator Workflow

Creating an Entry Schedule

Use this workflow when configuring normal business hours or another scheduled entry behavior.

Sign in to Alta Access

Open the Alta Access administrative web interface and sign in using an authorized administrator account.

Open Entry Schedules

Navigate to Sites → Entry Schedules.

Name the Schedule

Create a clear name such as Main Entrance - Business Hours.

Select Your Entries

Assign the applicable doors or entries and verify every selected entry.

Select the Event Type

Choose a Repeating Event for recurring schedules or a One-time Event for a specific occurrence.

Configure the Time

Select the frequency, applicable days, start time, end time, time zone and appropriate start/end dates.

Select the Scheduled State

Choose how the entry should behave during that scheduled period and review the configuration before saving.

Security Matters

Understand the Scheduled State

A schedule is more than "open" or "closed." The selected state determines how the entry behaves during the scheduled period.

Unlocked

No credential is required while the entry is in the unlocked state.

Standard Security

Provides secured access using compatible authorized credential methods.

Strict Security

Applies stronger authentication requirements and more restrictive credential methods.

No Entry

Prevents normal entry even when a person would otherwise possess an authorized credential.

Lockdown - Override Only

Prevents normal entry while allowing appropriately authorized overrides.

Convenience

Allows valid credentials and configured trigger methods according to the entry configuration.

The Five-Second Security Check

Before You Hit Save

A schedule can affect when a door automatically unlocks, restricts access or returns to a secured state. Verify these five items first.

Day
Time
Time Zone

BF Technology Solutions Recommendation

Changing Building Behavior? Use the Full Web Interface.

If you are changing something that controls when a building door automatically unlocks, secures or requires credentials, BF Technology Solutions recommends using the full Alta Access administrative interface on a laptop or desktop whenever possible.
Speak Alta

Use the Right Scheduling Terminology

Instead of referring to everything as a "site schedule," identify the actual schedule being configured.

Entry Schedule Controls scheduled door or entry behavior.
User Schedule Controls when an individual user is permitted access.
Access Group Schedule Controls scheduled access for groups of users.
Holiday Schedule Handles special dates when normal entry behavior may need to change.
